Default GEN 2 BOV, TMIC, TIP, DP & Hiflow Cat pics

    Hey guys,

For those following my other posts http://www.ozmpsclub.com/forum/track...omparison.html here are some pics of the changes MRT made to my car before MOTOR's hot hatch track comparison. You will also find attached a Dyno graph of the car before and after these mods were installed.

For the record MRT gave the car one of their XB power kits which includes a ECU retune using EcuTek. It also includes a DP and Hiflow cat. In addition to the XB kit, MRT replaced the TMIC, BOV and TIP. It is worth noting the last 3 mods gave the car little to no gain. There is more detail in the link above.

MRT also replaced rotors, pads, springs, swaybars and the rear engine mount. I will post photos of those in the appropriate threads.

I agree about the TMIC as well. Did not notice much power increase if any. The power came from the DP and CAI on mine. The tune gave it more mid range but no gain on top end for me.

the biggest difference i think you'll find with the TMIC is that it will allow lower boost pressures for similar torque/power numbers
the difference between oldhead/littleredmps's tunes and cton/reedy's is 15-15.5 psi vs 17-17.5 psi...
both former 2 have TMIC's, the latter 2 dont

The aftermarket TMIC will also allow for a cooler charge and should also effect the effeciency of Turbo . Remembering that for every one degree in charge air ,whether plus or minus effects HP.
TIP should not add hp ,again effeciency of intake air to turbo, via way of smoother transition/flow allows turbo to breathe easier.
    BOV will never add.
Correct combinations of above and added to well tuned, with dp and exhaust will greatly improve engine effeciency .
The real subjective point is Does TMIC vs FMIC benefit >>> TMIC closer to turbo and engine bay (heat soak) against FMIC in front of radiator and air cond core disrupts air flow and pipe lengths /design can cause lagg.
Remembering also that design of and quality of core /tank/pipework etc plays a huge roll.

Correct me if im wrong but wouldn't a TMIC or a FMIC give the engine a wider range of power/torque compared to a stock TMIC, not exactly a increase in either but bring boost on sooner and hold it for a little longer (TMIC)?

Or is a new intercooler upgrade mainly a mod if a future upgraded turbo is on the cards?

My ETS TMIC on my old car found me 16 - 21 wkw. It spooled up faster, made a wicked noise, and made here insane in 1 - 4. She would spin the wheels without any issue at 80km/h in 3rd.

A "good" TMIC will increase power. It does this by being less restrictive. So when you tune your boost to 18psi, the engine gets 16psi and not 14psi.

I might be in contact with a few of the internet stores to see what deals they can do and inquire about a group buy, but since alot of people on here already have Intercooler mods or aren't in the moding game might be tough.

I'll start a thread once this semesters uni is over to have a possible group buy happening if we get numbers.
