Thread: Max wheel/tyre size for Gen 1 MPS 3

  1. #1

Default Max wheel/tyre size for Gen 1 MPS 3

Hi guys, Does anyone know how wider tyre I can fit on the factory wheels to get more traction?

I am also considering new wheels but can't find many that look as good as the factory. How wide is the factory wheel and how wide can I go without scrubbing?

I am sticking with the standard ride height but have fitted Koni FSD shocks all round.

    Cheers!

225/40/18 standard gen 1 mps rims. 18/19x8 +45 225/40/45/18 without rubbing standard ride height. lowered you will need 18x8 +48 225/40/18 for no rubbing

    215/45/18 on 18x7 +52 is stock gen 1 size
ive got 225/45/18's on my stock rims, dont think i would want to go any wider

18x8 with an offset around 50 is what you should aim for (RX8 wheels are a great choice)

    I tried:

18x8 +35, 235 tyres, mild guard rolling and lowered on springs = Rubs with people in the car or going fast over sharp bumps.

    Currently on:

18x8 +45, 235 tyres, mild guard rolling and lowered on coilovers = no rub at all, not even with the 5 people in the car.

Same as you with stock height and FSD shocks I had 18x8 +45 225/40, no rubbing
Currently on 18x8 +50 235/40 also no rubbing

Glad to hear I can go 1" larger in both width and diameter...just have to find a wheel/tyre package that looks better than the factory. The Advans wheels on that red mps 6 wagon conversion look pretty damn hot..

    I'm going for 22s on a mps3 gen I .

    i have 18x8.5 offset +45

    tyres 225/40

my car is lowered with coilovers. all guards are rolled and front guards are flared.

no scrubbing at all, even with people in the car.

after all the hype in other threads about wheels at risk of scrubbing or being unsafe, my car has not felt safer since fitting good quality wide tyres/wheels.

i personally wouldnt do an offset lower than 45 though..

keep in mind this could be an illegal fitment in some (or all?) states as its over 1 inch wider than stock.

    hope this helps

Why? That's overkill. 19s fair enough but 22s?

I run 225/45/18 on std MPS Gen 1 rims - Yokohama S Drives. Grip really improved when I first fitted them the first time, so I am on my second set now and great tyre with no scrubbing or problems fitting.

    225/45/18 std rims/shocks/springs...
when people get in the back seat, get scrubbing when going over speed bumps or taking corners with a bit of speed

The springs change the camber of the rears considerably I think it actually helps clearance..

You've got to stop letting those scrubbers in your back seat Sam

They should be in the front passenger seat. Not enough room in the back of the mps
