Ok Got a couple of price quotes back in now, 235/40 R18 Semi slicks at the average Australian retailer run at about $570. Less my $500 discount I am looking at about $1800 for a full set.

A048's cost $300 each from Tirerack. Plus $250 shipping. That's $1450 for a set delivered. So even with a huge discount, I am still paying more with our horrendous Australian prices. Tirerack don't sell A050's tho and those are the ones I want (in soft compound).

That's a big financial commitment for a small gain at an event that I am probably going to lose horribly at anyway.... What to do what to do......

I know there has been debate about import costs, but I'm fairly confident that if you import from Tirerack and the value of the tyres and freight is over $1000 you'll be up for 5% customs duty then you'll have to pay 10% gst on the total amount including customs duty. That will make the package cost $1674.75. When buying over the internet See example 3. According to this site you'll also need to complete an import declaration.

When I bought my tyres from Tirerack they sent them in bundles of 2, each with a different tracking number. My purchase was over 1k i didnt have to pay anything extra.

I'd like know how that works because the customs requirements are clear. Maybe it's pot luck, depending on how busy they are.

There is definitely an element of luck. If they pick that the 2 packages are part of the same shipment then they could very well sting you with the extra tax. Sanchez got away with it but that's not to say everyone will.

Essentially would be buying for this event but then I would have a good set of tyres to use in the future, there are supersprint and timeattack events that I would like to get involved in so they wouldn't go entirely to waste.
