Hi All,
Since I am having some difficulty locating a single MPS 6 rim (found 1 brand new one for $350, but would look silly on the car with my 3 scuffed ones) I am looking at aftermarket wheel options, since it is time for new tyres anyway. I have read numerous posts about wheel fitment, but have not found a definitive answer as yet, so at risk of starting another flame fest...
Will 18*8 45 offset fit without rubbing? Some posts say yes, some say no...
I am looking to run the falcodore standard 235/40/18 tyre, and handling is more important to me than "fitment".
Thanks,
Chris.

Growing old is compulsory... Growing up is optional...

Here are my experiences:
1. Not lowered, running 225/40, on stock rims (18x7, 50 offset), does not require rear guard rolling;
2. Not lowered, running 225/40, 18x8 45 offset does not require rear guard rolling;
3. Lowered on stock rim running 225/40/18 requires roll to the rear guards
4. Lowered on 18x8 45 offset with 225/40 tyres requires roll to the rear guards;
3. Lowered, 18x8 45+ offset, running 235/40 tyres, rears guards will need further roll (front part, near the rear doors)
Is your car lowered?
Victa thanked for this post

Not lowered at this stage, until the council fix the road... I scrape on the driveway already...
Another option I have found is an 18*7.5 +45... sound like these should fit under nicely, but will they take a 235 wide tyre?
Chris.

Sigh... some research today has tyre people telling me that 235/40 is an illegal fitment onto a 7.5" wide rim. And ROH tell me that the rim I want in an 18*8 will not fit the MPS...
This leaves me with the option of some OZ racing wheels, 18*8+55 @ approx $600 each, or 225/45/18 tyres at $400 each for decent ones, or cheap crap...
One guy did try to sell me on some Hankook K114's in a 225/45/18 for $255 each... these any good?

235/40 on 18x7.5 is an illegal fitment : for MOST but NOT all 235/40R18 tyres.
+55 isn't a legal offset either.
Your _legal_ offset range is from +40 to +52.5
Double check that +55 offset for OEM rims - I am confident that is _wrong_ and the correct value is +52.5
If you want to use 8" wide you can (possibly contrary to ROH advice), but the offset should be as high as possible - preferable +48 to +52. +45 should be OK, but it would be borderline, and with any of the 8" wide fitments you should consider you will need to roll rear gaurds. The lower the offset, the more trouble the fitment will be in terms of rubbing and what you might have to do to resolve that.
RX-8 whee;s are 18x8+50 and that's a decent fitment, but does run close to guards with 235/40 wrapped around them.
Can't comment on the hankook, but 225/45R18 on 18x7.5 is a good fitment....+48 is what I consider the ideal offset for this fit...because it placed the tyres inside track within 0.5mm of the stock position.

Chris you will definately get rubbing on sharp bumps and with passengers in the rear running 18x8 +45 with 235/40/18 tyres, I run exactly that Im not lowered and needed my rear guards rolled as the outside 2 - 3mm on the tyre was rubbing on the inside edge of the guard which sits out at 90 degree angle

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but i'm looking at some XXR 527:

The thinnest size is 8.75 widewhat offset would be needed to fit these on the MPS3 for 235/40 considering im very low.... Or is it time to choose a different rim?
