I used to notice a puff of white smoke in 2nd gear in my old 2008 MPS and have also noticed this a couple of times in my new Gen 2 with only 2000kms on the clock.
It usually happens when the revs get over 5000 rpm in 2nd gear just before gear change when giving it a bit of schtick. I never red line it but open it up every now and then.
I mentioned it once about the old car to Mazda when it was in for a service but they claim they couldn't see it. I've had no other issues with either car and it makes me wonder if it's just the fuel being burnt fast!
Comments much appreciated.
Are you sure its white?
My guess would be excess fuel as these cars are known to run very rich.

Yeah that's what I thought it may be. I'll try and take more notice of the colour.

I had this on mine also. Mind you, mine was at low revs/idle. It disappeared after less than 5000k on the clock. Haven't seen it since.

Smoking is bad for your health, no matter what rpm or gear.. sounds like it could be a bit rich, but thats not a bad thing

It bloody smoked again this morning in 2nd gear. Had been running for about 5 minutes and pulled into traffic, didn't hammer it but accelerated a bit. Still looked grey whitish and was more than a puff. No running issues though.

Bump

if it looks like this:
you've got a broken turbo seal
video it, or take a photo, and take it to mazda, they should fix it up for you![]()

No way it doesn't look like that. It's a puff, not a stream. Is it possible to have a broken turbo seal at 2500kms?

Just drop it into mazda the warranty will cover it surely?
Let the "professionals" sort it out.![]()
