Each state has their fair share of cruises which seem to always get the regular faces turning up time ane time again and a large subset of the members who never show their face.
Im curious as to what is the thinking behind making people be a part of the social side of this community and whats the thinking behind those who dont care for that side of it.
What makes you say "fantastic cant wait bring on the cruise" or to those on the other side of the coin, what is the reason you dont come along to cruises, what is it that turns you off or makes you have no interest"
What could be changed for those of you with no current interest ?

Taken my boring, bland, lame Subaru and my fat ass and driven off into the sunset with a smile on my face

For me it's a chance to see people that I get along with well and have a good laugh with and also enjoy the car and enjoy some funny stories. Some of the people that attend NSW/ACT Cruises are an absolute hoot (loons) to drive with and have a great laugh as well.
For me I love driving as well, so any chance to get out in the car I will do and have no quelms at driving over 600k's via a Indirect route to get to Canberra for example as I did a few months ago.
Thats just me, I am in it more for the driving and the cruises as opposed to have a car that can laydown hundreds of KW's etc.
Edit:
My first cruise was the Cowra cruise, I had only had my car for 5 days (so new it didnt even have the proper Rego sticker in it) I drove all the way from Sydney to Cowra on my own to meet these people that I had never met before and I think had only just started talking to on the CB. I was the only Sydneysider to come out for the cruise as well. Not looked back since then really, have met some great people that I call friends.
As someone has the said, the overnight cruises are excellent, Mudgee was great and I look forward to attending the Merimbula cruise next year (that truely is a monster drive for Syd people)

What Andy said is pretty much how I feel!
I enjoy catching up with the few regulars I've had the chance to meet and get to know (you guys know who you are) and I love being able to give the car the kind of 'squirts' I can't give it around town. The km's worry me a little at times, we racked up 450 odd kms last Sunday, but obviously not enough to keep me at home
. Hell, I'm there even when I've got a bad head cold......only for special people though
.
Cruising FTW!!!
Oh, my first time was a Gen 2 catchup organised by PostmanDan, he was the first ever OMPSC member I set eyes on at Coorparoo![]()

I do it for the cruise. It's only since I've joined this forum that I now do it to catch up with my new mates, and to hopefully meet new ones![]()

I love the social aspect of cruising, especially with the OzMPS mob, just getting together with enthusiasts is awesome fun. I consider a lot of people in this club to be close mates as a result.
I think everyone should make the effort to turn up to an event, see if its sometihng you'd be keen on. I remember my first ever car club 'meet'. It was for coffee, there was some old hats from RX-8 Club there, a couple of OzMPS (though I didn't know it at the time) It was a little intimidating at first, but then I realised what brought everyone together was the enjoyment of their various cars. Can't remember what the first thing I said was, but it got nods of acceptance
I mean, at the moment, I'm geared up to travel 600km to stay at some guys place I've never met...yet I feel comfortable because he is a fellow enthusiast. On the other side, he is inviting three strangers into his home for the same reasons! I just can't think of what life would be like now without this network of mates.
And nothing beats the site in the rearview mirror on a cruise, or the looks on people faces![]()
SarcasticOne: nah, nathan would say "when i get sad, i stop being sad, and drive the RX8 instead, true story"

The key points about what motivates me to get involved have already been well made. Not much to add, other than as a driving enthusiast I like the driving aspect. Hanging around in a suburban carpark looking under bonnets is OK for a while and in some clubs that's as good as it gets.
But a real cruise is when you get to drive somewhere. The longer and twistier the better. Hey, while ever the roads remain twisty and the traffic is sparce, why not just keep going and going for a couple of days with a hillarious overnight stop at a beautiful location thrown in.
That's something this club does particularly well. It's been a pleasure searching out great driving roads and then sharing the driving experience with a group of like minded people. I really miss the two-day cruises in NSW. The fact that some criuses have become regular events proves that it's a winning formula.
And I'll never forget the 52 car cruise to Kiama. What a monster! In my rearview mirror there were Mazda's all the way to the horizon.
However I have to admit to not reading the latest NSW cruise threads for fear of getting home sick.
The WA crowd did pretty well at the last cruise. We possibly had the most 6MPS's ever seen in one place outside of Hiroshima. Might have to see if they are up for an overnighter.

FOR SALE

Nathan, you might want to re-think that. The comfortable bit I mean.
At the moment I have you slated to stay in the 'bondage' room.
I just hope the mail-order gimp suit arrives in time
On topic, for me it's about catching up with my new mates, having a laugh, and having a friendly blat around the countryside. It's somewhere I can talk 'geek' about cars and have others talk 'geek' back just as enthusiastically.

I guess I am on the fence with this one...mainly due to the fact that I can't keep up with most of you guys haha but I do love catching up for lunch with the guys![]()

Tricache - "countrychic" in her Mazda 2 keeps up, in fact pushes us along at times!
For me, like everyone else, it's the driving.
That's how it started, but after the first run and meeting a few people, that became the main thing.
Just look at the occupation thread, such different people from all walks of life, joined by a common intrest. And everyone gets on so well.
Other advantage. Putting a face to the names makes understand what they are saying and their sence of humor.
There are some really great people on this forum.
Everyone should make the effort to go on a cruise at least once.

Had my first meet/cruz only a few weekends ago.i was the first to arrive i felt a bit small 'did i come to the right place'? than logan showed up than reedy and everyone. felt a little bit akward at first, than as people who i talked to on the forums/chatbox started to talk about things that where discused here, it all came together! i started to relax felt at ease. As soon as logan took off gave it a bit out of macca's i had the biggest grin thought this will be fun.. I had an absoult blast good people, good food where we had lunch, good scenary, having a string of mps's in my rear view! laughing at Mitch tryn to take paint off my rear bumper in every corner
.. when i got home i wanted to go again
there will be many more for me
Guys if u's have not been on one you need too.
I really want to see these mini cruz's up and running i feel this will be the life blood for the bigger cruz's! If people can meet up locally for 1-2hrs somewhere get to know a couple of people, wont feel like a fish out of water![]()
