Why hasn't anyone else fitted Falkens like me???

Which Falkens?
I had FK452's, no one else here liked them except me. Admittedly they were harsh on the MPS, I think the high load rating didn't help. But once they were properly warm, they worked well. Finicky with pressures though.
Replaced with Kumho KU31, which in the MPS application crap on the FK452's from a great height.
A KU36 or RT615 style tyre will be my next set.

I'm very seriously looking at Federal 595 in 235/40 91W
I've had federals before. Ok they aren't the best tyre on the market and people will say you should buy this brand and that brand (usually at much higher value) but if you have a low budget, they are excellent value for money.
Talking to my tyre guy today who has never led me astray, i've known him personally for a very long time. He said he gets less complaints about them than any other tyre he sells. And as he says, its because they perform better than expectations.
For the same reasons, he says he gets most complaints with Continentals. They are great, but not as good as reputation says.
He also said the same as i said in Rinos thread about the cheapies he aquired.
They aren't all bad. They are cheap due to lower overheads. No advertising etc.
The khumo Ku19's have served me well, 30,000km so far, after a turn around and rotation have good life left, they grip well enough for sensable driving, quiet, hold air, and keep the rims off the ground
Of the tyres I tested on SP23 the SS595 rated very highly for me. Not because they were super-grippy; they're not - they were quite a hard compound, but because they were uber-predictable. Always knew what was going on through feedback, and they let go progressively and just in a very controllable way all around. Consistent and predictable. Toyo and Maxxis might have been gripper, but the SS595 told you more about what they were doing - in a nice way.
The only thing I eventually tired of was the UFO noise they made - woobba-woobba-woobba
2007 Aurora Blue MPS 3 - 18x7.5+48 Enkei RPF1 shod with 225/45R18 - 3.5" ETS TMIC - 75Duro CPE mount - HKS/CPE BPV - 2XS turbo inlet - 2XS short shift plate - 2XS "compact" shortest equal length turbo manifold - 2XS Racepipe - Leather/Aluminium handbrake - Momo shifty knob - 7" touchscreen - JDM Mazda Navigation box - PC based GPS and instrumentation - 36AH reserve battery + isolator
bd581 thanked for this post

I have the Federal 595 and it's turning out to be quite reasonable. If you're into corners, I would however suggest getting the 595EVO as it has a better void ratio, more solid shoulder blocks and better lateral grip.

Hi guys,
Just got my MPS3 GenII 18 month service done and the dealer picked up an 'unrepairable' slow puncture on my right rear stock Dunlop SP2050... I don't mind the dunlops but wanted to look at ?Yokohama S.drive AS01s or ADVAN Sport V103s - saw you had a set, Jeev, and the Falken RT615s.
I do like to drive and corner in the MPS way and wondered what the forum members can suggest? I will prob. need two tires and then will replace the other Dunlops down the track. I wasn't impressed by the Bridgestone Potenza 050s on our 2004 Mazda 6 (non-MPS sadly)... but the rim size is different.
Anyway, any advice welcome.

I have a set of ZE912's fitted. Not the sportiest looking tyre, but when we went on a cruise through the Reefton Spur, I didn't seem to have any issues with handling, and have had pretty reliable grip through all conditions. Not as corner-sticky as my original Potenzas (were good and sticky but rubbish for any sorta economy), and the Toyos I had were a dud and went out of round, great on straights and in the wet, cornering, meh, was ok.

Thanks for the feedback on the federals.
These are the 595, not the older SS595. Not sure what real world difference there is between them
They sound perfect for what I need in a tyre.
At $140ea fitted I don't think I'll find a tire as good for the price.
Guess it prove that there is no such thing as "best tyre for 3MPS's"
Just best tyre for your needs.
