    This photo clearly demonstrates the poor design of the OEM VVT actuator on the earlier models - these units have a very limited life span.

    It wasn't making the noises that a failed vvt will but it couldn't of been far off!

    And to further xliquidx's (straight edge? :-/ ) question, is there an aftermarket solution? More to the point, can we remove the VVT all together and smash in some dirty big cams?

    A DCR or revised factory VVT are both around $250+ Im sure there is a thread in here on replacement costs and from memory around $700 rings a bell from mazda.

    DCR assure Me their VVT unit is %100 successful and have had no failures.
