You live too far away from me, sorry! Haha, if I'm home and not busy I'd be happy to meet pretty much anytime to compare.
Did you remember to turn off your interior light spud? Mine was dirty too, but at least my rims were black. And for those who don't know, my car got called a 'bubble' last night!

Informal meet ftw!
I can smoke you all away, literally!

Mine sounds like that aswell, which bearing are you suspect of rog? I might check mine out

I had the same problem too, Dealer said it was normal as they had another MPS in for a service on the same day.
I said "well both the cars have worn idler bearings." They assured me it was normal.
A few days later i removed both the idler and tensioner pulleys. Tensioner pulley was the culprit.
Luckily its a metal pulley, so the bearing only can be replaced, $8.
The idler pulley is made from plastic, so its a throw away. I replaced that with a metal version ($33) as a precaution and i can replace the bearing only if it ever fails.
The next free moment i had i went back to the dealer, walked straight up to the service manger who served me. Cut straight in front of the customer he was attending to and slammed the bearing on the desk. He looked at me, i looked at the bearing, he looked at the bearing, i walked out.
Hours later i received a call of apology.
It was the most meaningless apology i have ever heard.

Where did you get the replacements?
Did the noise go away?
What's the idler and tensioner pulley look like?? I want to check it out.

GAHH I wish I had the cash to start my own workshop. I am not a qualified mechanic, but I know enough that I can learn more.. BUT I hate seeing issues with service departments.. they are all crooked i reckon. I would have shoved the bearing where the sun don't shine.. litterally, and called him a dumbarse. then told the MTA about it.. that woulda got you more than a blank appology!!!
anyways.. good on you for atleast going in and shoving it in their face!!!
My car makes the same 'hissing noise'. Drives me absolutely insane. Mazda also claims it is normal.
Definitely seems to come from the pulley area. Need to find a trust worthy mechanic to diagnose it for me.

Hi Yodo,
I have the same issue with my pulleys. The difference being though that my mechanic (a Mazda Specialist, NOT a dealer) diagoned it at my service yesterday. He is a great guy and the work they do is excellent. Not out to rip you off and he treats you car as if he is working on his own. Thats all a customer can ask for!!
Anyway, i was wondering how tricky it was to replace these pulleys. Its not that i dont want my guy to do it but i just want to do it myself for something to do on a saturday! I did the pulleys on my Mrs' 99 corolla and i am thinking about doing it on the mighty MPS! Was it a real prick to do or was it pretty easy? Im pretty good wtrh the tools so thats no issue, im just wondering about bloody special tools etc!
Cheers,
Al.
