Here's what I spent this weekend on. A supercharged 2004 Mazda RX8 custom resprayed in Lexus pearl white.
The car didn't look too bad initially. The owner had done some light machining on the surface so oxidation wasn't too bad.
Narrow Richmond laneways
There was a fair bit of build-up in the panel gaps though that needed addressing
And also some fairly deep scratching above the front left hand headlight
The wheels suit the car very well, but needed a good clean too
Tarnished fuel filler cap
Foam wash + chemical decontamination
The garage lights doing their job and highlighting the swirls that need to be worked out
Close-up of the mirror damage
Bonnet swirling
As I started correcting the paint it became quickly apparent that the Lexus pearl white respray cured harder than the factory Mazda RX8 paint. So instead of the lighter pad/polish choice that would normally yield good results with this type of car, I had to step it up a notch to get the swirling out.
50/50 on the roof using an orange CCS on the Flex VRG with HD Uno.
and after a second stage pass with Optimum GPS and white CCS
Finished roof
Finished bonnet
Mirror damaged corrected as best as possible. Small amount of damage remaining in the form of a chunk that was taken out at the time of the damage
Completed shots. Wheels hand-polished with Meg Ultimate Compound and sealed with FK1000p
Exhausts polished also (of course)
Build-up in panel gaps removed
Scratches above the headlights minimised. Complete removal wasn't feasable due to their depth, but they're now well hidden to all but the keenest eye
Filler cap polished to remove tarnish and sealed
