Thread: LED replacements - Legal?

    Default LED replacements - Legal?

    Hi All,

Does anyone have any info on the legalities of replacing filament bulbs with LED's ? Are there certain LED's that will meet the Australian standards?

I see auto pro, eBay etc all selling them but just wanted to see if anyone knew anything before I buy.

As the car is my daily drive I can't afford the attention of the police or claim denial in an accident.

    Cheers,
    Tims

Replacing driving light bulb with led is fine as long as its white. Headlight bulb to led would start blinding other drivers I guess. Have you thought abt getting HID kit?

    Hey Mr. Harry,

Ive got low beam HID's already (stock standard on the MPS 6) .. I was thinking more along the lines of indicators, brakes, reverse, parkers, parking lights etc....

    Cheers,

Yeh I pretty much changed everything to LED, so you are good to go. I got pulled over couple of times in past coz of wheels n they had no problems with led.

If you after something local, try Carx Clayton(Brian) or cree led seems to be the choice. Check out post abt bulb sizes. Should have all the info you need.

Yeah mate we are using cree for the parkers, specifically 2 X T10 T15 7 5W Lens Cree Q5 High Power CAR Signal Tail Turn LED Light Bulb | eBay The problem with these ones in the 6 is they don't fit through the tiny hole. You need to grind the hole bigger within the headlight housing. Otherwise, use something t10 smd led ones

Thanks @dazza - is there much grinding to be done ? I'm worried about grinding it, putting the cree's in.. deciding i dont like them and not being able to put the stocks back

There is a bit yeah, I had to wrap the bulb holder with some plumbers tape so it would be snug back in the hole, you could swap the old ones back just wrap the holder as it will be loose in the hole otherwise

I tried replacing the fog lights with some H11 led lights. They didn't work because the ones i bought only work in direct current. Anyone encounter this issue? Which fog light H11 LED's are suitable for our 6's (link please).
