Thread: Hypertech Install then CEL?

  1. #1

    Default Hypertech Install then CEL?

I updated the Hypertech unit on my PC then installed the tune ( GEN 1 ).
I am continually getting a CEL. When I remove the tune the CEL dissappears. Any ideas????

Use the unit to read the cel, are you using the correct intake option?
Try using stock air box option

Yeah, I used the unit to clear the CEl but it comes back after I turn the car off and start it again...... I have a CPE Xcel-Nano which I select.
I also used a scanguage to clear the CEL & same thing. Do you think it may be that I may have an air leak or loose hose???

Have you found out what the cel code is? Clearing it doesn't help if you don't solve the issue causing it in first place

It does come up but I have ignored it. I'll get the code tonight & post it up tomorrow. Good point though, Cheers.
How do I know what the code means?

Might just be a bank running rich/lean on idle... I'll be curious to find out which code(s) it is.

    Ok guys,

    It's a P0138 CEL.

This is the discription :P0138 Rear HO2S circuit high voltage ON 2 HO2S ×

Does this mean it's the rear Oxygen sensor????

Why does it dissappear when I remove the Hypertech tune???

High voltage means the second sensor is reading an AFR so rich, it's actually out of the parametrised operating range of the signal. Get your hands on a DashHawk or AFR meter and you'll find that you're more than likely running way too rich... You could try to use an intake map with a smaller diameter.

I don't think this is the case, but you may also have a malfunctioning sensor or a Cat that flows too much.

    Thanks Jeev,

I am running 2XS's old SS TBE from hid Gen 1, which when was installed with no Hypertech tune was fine. I then used tuned the car with the original Hypertech tune & all was ok. After this I read there was an upgrade for the tune. I downloaded the new tune & installed it & tha's when I started having the CEL. Don't understand why it's only come up now. I'll try a different intake to see if it makes any difference. I'll keep you guys upgated......

    Cheers

    Sam

There are options for the Gen1 Aus and other variants for the Hypertech. Are you sure you chose the correct option when updating it? I imagine the different variations run maps with varying AFR's... Check what the tuner is set-up for and then check which intake map it's running.

I have the update of the hypertech as well as a CES TBE, no CEL here, i assume we have the same exhaust system.

Perhaps Troy's system has a different cat? Where is he?

    Yeah,
I definitely install the correct version. I always double check the options on the unit prior to selecting the 'Y' key.
I don't know if Troys old TBE is any different to yours Nirvangan, i suppose it could be........ What SRI are you running Nirvandan????
What do you select on the tuner?

CES SRI here, i selected stock intake in the hypertech as the diameter ID of the SRI matches stock.

    Hmmm ok,

Might try stock intake after I remove & re-install tune....
Might get Troy to verify our TBE's are the same......or not.

    Thanks Nirvandan

    Well,
Looks like choosing a stock intake has done the job.

I only accepted the removal of the 0-100kmph restriction & left the other options as stock.

I took the car around the block & started it & turned it of about 5 times.

Interesting stuff, hmmmmmm. Let's see how long it will last

Yep, sounds like the intake map you were running was designed for a much larger diameter intake -> Way too rich, and probably saturated the sensors reading.
